A CANDIDATE in the upcoming Dublin South West by-election will have to scale back his canvassing plans after coming off worse for wear in a charity football match.

Independent councillor Ronan McMahon, son of former FG TD Larry McMahon, had an X-ray on his leg last night after sustaining a suspected broken foot while playing for Dublin South County Council against members of the Oireachtas in the game at Tallaght Stadium.

"It was just just excruciating pain right trough my right foot," Ronan (pictured left) said last night. "We'll have to wait and see but I suspect it is broken, I'll be on crutches at least so I'm more worried about canvassing now for the next week."
