Tributes to 'true gentleman' as ex-minister dies
Martin O'Donoghue, a former Fianna Fáil TD, senator and government minister, has died aged 85.
His passing ends another link with the fraught era of Charlie Haughey as party leader and Taoiseach.
Mr O'Donoghue was close to former Taoiseach Jack Lynch. But he quarrelled fiercely with Mr Lynch's successor, Mr Haughey, who sacked him from cabinet. Later, Mr O'Donoghue supported the breakaway Progressive Democrats.
Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin led tributes, describing him as a "true gentleman".
