Tanaiste branded 'scumbag' and car blocked during protest at school
Tanaiste Joan Burton was subjected to a stream of abuse on a visit to a school in North Dublin.
The Minister for Social Protection was forced to leave the school by its back entrance as protestors blocked the minister’s car from leaving the school grounds.
The small group called Ms Burton a “scumbag” and “coward” and said she should be “f**king sacked”, all while within earshot of children at the school.
The incident happened when she visited Manor House School in Raheny on Monday.
Echoing the abuse of President Michael D Higgins last week, one protestor can be heard shouting “You are only a traitor!”.
As Ms Burton is jeered, anti-water charge protesters move in to block Ms Burton’s car from leaving the school grounds.
It is believed that protester Derek Byrne from “Dublin Says No”, who this week was apologised for calling President Higgins a “midget parasite”, was among the group at the school.
A spokesman for Ms Burton confirmed the incident said she used alternative transport when leaving the school on Monday as her car, with her driver, was blocked for a number of hours.
“The protestors didn’t delay her, she simply left by a different car so not to be held up,” he said.
