SF's abstentionism is pointless
Sinn Féin has seven seats in the London parliament that it refuses to take despite continually close votes on Ireland's fate after Brexit.
On Monday night, two key votes against special EU trade arrangements after Brexit were passed by just two votes. Before the last Westminster elections in June 2017, the anti-Brexit and nationalist SDLP had three seats, and Northern Ireland voted 60:40 to stay in the EU in the June 2016 referendum.
The DUP has used its 10 MPs to support a radical Brexit stance that would block special EU treatment for the Border. Sinn Féin's anti-Brexit rhetoric and the sterile abstentionist policy perpetuated by Mary Lou McDonald are totally contradictory. All other parties are keen to stress this as the crunch point nears.
