Communications Minister Denis Naughten has said he wants to see "the maximum level of transparency" from RTÉ in relation to pay at the broadcaster.

An independent review of gender equality at RTÉ, being conducted by former Workplace Relations Commission chief Kieran Mulvey, is expected to be finished towards the end of September. RTÉ rejected a freedom of information request by this newspaper to publish a breakdown of its male and female staff's earnings, but has said it looks forward to sharing the results of Mr Mulvey's review "in due course".

Mr Naughten said: "I want to see the maximum level of transparency possible in relation to pay in RTÉ."

In relation to Mr Mulvey's review, he said: "I think that report should be published as soon as possible."
