O Cuiv: FF lacks 'overriding mission'

Daniel McConnell Political Correspondent

SENIOR members of Fianna Fail have revealed their "disappointment" at the party's performance in recent opinion polls.

The party failed to stop the Government party's support rising by 7pc in the most recent 'Irish Times'/Ipsos MRBI poll.

TDs and senators are concerned that the party's support, while steady in this poll, has slipped back from a peak of 26pc. On foot of the latest poll, former deputy leader of the party Eamon O Cuiv expressed his frustration.

"Latest opinion poll leaves us becalmed at 22pc. We just do not seem to be making consistent gains," he tweeted.

Asked to expand on his comments, Mr O Cuiv told the Irish Independent he is deeply concerned the party is "lacking an overriding mission" in which party members can identify with.
