SO you think the abortion business is done and dusted? Not a chance, for the senators have their moment in the sun, and it could get even madder in the Upper House than it did in the Dail, if the God of Political Sketch Writing is kind.
As a taster of the fare to come, Fianna Fail senator Terry Leyden sent a few eyebrows sky-high last Wednesday during a Seanad debate on the bill when he observed that Mussolini and Adolf Hitler were "both good Christians".
Sensing trouble, he hastily elaborated: "Not in their activity, I can assure you – they were monsters, they destroyed the whole continent of Europe, let me be quite clear about that," he declared, while behind him his party colleague Brian O'Domhnaill was in stitches laughing.
We can't wait to see which of 'em invokes the name of that devout peacenik, Josef Stalin.
