Leaders vow to help jobless youth
TAOISEACH Enda Kenny and the North's First Minister Peter Robinson have pledged to co-operate to tackle youth unemployment on both sides of the Border.
At the meeting of the North-South Ministerial Council in Dublin Castle, both leaders promised to draw up a joint plan to tap into the €8bn of EU "youth guarantee" funding. This will provide a job placement or training for every person aged 18-25 from next January onwards.
Mr Kenny said that an effective North-South programme on tackling youth unemployment would be drawn up in September – with Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore taking charge of the process.
