HSBC asked before PAC

THE Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has invited members of the HSBC bank to discuss the Swiss tax controversy.

Fine Gael TD for Waterford John Deasy said it was important that officials from the HSBC's Irish bank appeared to discuss alleged tax evasion by Irish account holders.

The Revenue Commissioners has said 13 people are subject to ongoing investigations relating to the Swiss data.

The PAC has formally invited HSBC to appear alongside Revenue at a sitting next month.
