Brendan Howlin went to Brighton - but he had a 'road to Damascus' conversion.

Just weeks ago, the Irish Labour leader made derogatory comparisons between Jeremy Corbyn and his political enemies in Solidarity and People Before Profit.

Mr Howlin previously told the Irish Independent that he believed the UK's Labour Party leader couldn't win the last general election. "I think there are many within his own party...who believe his position will mean that they won't win the next election," he said.

Now he has defended a photo with Mr Corbyn at the party conference in Brighton, which Mr Howlin posted on his Twitter account. "He's no 'Corbynista' - but he likes Labour's changed views on Brexit which benefit Ireland and we want further progress," a spokesman said.
