How Pat compared McDowell to 'a menopausal Paris Hilton'
LABOUR backbench TD Pat Rabbitte is all too familiar with the term 'faux pas'.
On several occasions in the past, he has been accused of making disparaging comments about women.
During the 2007 General Election campaign, the then Labour Party leader courted controversy by comparing the then Justice Minister Michael McDowell to "a menopausal Paris Hilton". It was an attempt by Mr Rabbitte to mock the former PD leader's apparent fondness to seeking public attention.
Fours years later, Mr Rabbitte was accused of making an "outrageous slur" on women after he referred to "good-looking women" who shop on Grafton Street. He claimed that the placement of women at the forefront of a photograph of Fianna Fáil's frontbench was a "stunt for photographic purposes".
"You might as well wander down Grafton Street and see if you can meet a couple of good-looking women and say, 'would you ever mind coming up for the photograph, it's only for four weeks'," he said.
The latest comments, this time about Joan Burton and her profile, is yet another foot-in-mouth moment to add to Mr Rabbitte's collection.
