Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae reconnected with Mother Nature and got his hands dirty as he tried his best at ploughing the old-fashioned way over the weekend.

The 48-year-old was photographed yesterday participating in the horse section of the Ardfert Ploughing Championships in Co Kerry. And, there is no doubt that it came naturally to the Kerry-South TD, who comes from a long line of farmers in Kilgarvan, Co Kerry.

Mr Healy-Rae swapped his usual Leinster House attire for a pair of wellington boots for the day and last night he had high praise for the annual event held on the land of local farmer Dominick Flaherty.

The father-of-five admitted that he was "like a child" at the event, which he described as being "exceptionally well organised and run off on time" in a post on his Facebook page last night.

"Got a go at ploughing with horses, not as simple as it looks fair skill involved. But sure I was like a child, in a world of my own with the horses and plough," he said.
