Underdog Simon Coveney's bid to become the next Fine Gael leader received a boost after his performance at the party's first hustings last night.

Coveney and Social Protection Minister Leo Varadkar spent two hours trying to convince their party colleagues that they're the best candidate to fill Enda Kenny's shoes.
