Former government press secretary Eoghan Ó Neachtain has taken up a new position in the public relations sector.

Mr Ó Neachtain, who uniquely worked for three Taoisigh, has been appointed Director of Public Affairs at Heneghan PR.

The Galway native is former head of communications with the Defence Forces, where he held the rank of Commandant, and joins from ERVIA where he spent the last three years as Group Head of Public Affairs.

Mr Ó Neachtain served as press secretary to former Taoisigh Bertie Ahern and Brian Cowen in the Fianna Fáil-led government from 2007 to 2011. But he was then asked to stay on in the position by Taoiseach Enda Kenny for the opening months of the Fine Gael-Labour Party Coalition in 2011, which included the visit of Queen Elizabeth II and US President Barack Obama.

He is the only spindoctor to have worked for both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael governments.

Notably, Mr Ó Neachtain has not written any memoirs about his time in government.
