THE leader of Fianna Fail has criticised a "pathetic and juvenile" lack of discipline among some of his own TDs.

Micheal Martin's comments were made at a meeting of his front bench yesterday - when, according to the Irish Times, he said many deputies were proving to be more adept at undermining their own party than the coalition Government or Sinn Fein.

It is understood that Mr Martin warned that further dissent would not be tolerated - indicating that certain TDs could lose their place on the party's front bench.

Sources within the party believe that the comments were directed squarely at Eamon O Cuiv and John McGuinness, both of whom have been critical of the party in recent weeks.

Writing in the 'Sunday Independent' last weekend, Mr O Cuiv said that Fianna Fail - which was founded by his grandfather - was facing "demise", while Mr McGuinness has indicated that he wants to take over as party leader
