FF leader refuses to call for Perry axe
FIANNA Fail leader Micheal Martin is refusing to call for the resignation of embattled junior minister John Perry – even though members of his own frontbench say it is time for Mr Perry to go.
Fianna Fail finance spokesman Michael McGrath called on Mr Perry to step down over the weekend, saying: "At this stage, in my view, he has no option but to go."
But Mr Martin would not go that far.
He would only say that Mr Perry should "reflect" on his position and he called on Taoiseach Enda Kenny to make a statement on the issue.
The different approach also comes after Mr McGrath was the most senior person in Fianna Fail to call for a free vote on the abortion issue, which Mr Martin then granted against his initial wishes.
