Father of Green Party leader Eamon Ryan dies aged 85
BOB Ryan, father of Green Party leader, Eamon Ryan, has died.
Mr Ryan, aged 85, was a well known figure in banking and public relations, working in Cork, Dublin and London.
He was best known for the 16 years he served as public relations manager for Allied Irish Banks when he was a popular figure in the artistic and social life of Dublin.
Bob Ryan was born in Tramore in 1931 into a family which originated in the Glen of Aherlow in Tipperary.
Because his father was a bank official he lived in many parts of the country and began his own banking career in Cork city.
After his retirement he published a memoir entitled “With a Tap on the Knee” which recounted his life as a “reluctant banker.” It offered an insight into the banking and business culture of a vanishing Ireland.
