Veteran Limerick TD and chair of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party Dan Neville has announced he is not contesting the next general election.
The 69-year-old TD took the party by surprise with the announcement this morning.
Deputy Neville has been at Leinster House since 1989, first as a Senator and later as a TD from 1997.
He is well known for his campaigning to raise awareness about suicide and is co-founder and president of the Irish Association of Suicidology and a campaigner on mental health issues.
