Christmas Bonus will be paid again
Social Protection Minister Leo Varadkar will today announce plans for the continuation of the Christmas Bonus.
Mr Varadkar will use a speech in the Dáil this evening to confirm that plans are for funding for the payment to be ringfenced again this year.
"As happened in 2014 and 2015, when a bonus was subsequently paid, there is currently no provision for a bonus in the Department's allocation for 2016," Mr Varadkar will say.
"The State's financial position is improving again in 2016 and I will therefore be seeking approval from my Government colleagues in the coming months for the payment of a Christmas Bonus once again this year."
The bonus, which was restored in last October's Budget, is paid to 1.2 million social welfare claimants and pensioners.
