The Cabinet will reconvene tomorrow to discuss the strategy for the upcoming referendums on same sex marriage and the age of presidential candidates.
Ministers today agreed to hold a separate meeting on the issue, during which a date for the referendums is expected to be set.
There is growing concern within government circles that the referendum on marriage equality could be defeated unless the ‘yes’ campaign manages to assert itself.
However, sources within both Fine Gael and Labour believe the decision by Health Minister Leo Varadkar to reveal that he is gay has placed renewed focus on the issue.
Ministers will tomorrow discuss details of the strategy of the campaign, while the separate referendum on whether to lower the age for presidential candidates from 35-21 will also be on the agenda.
