Austin Currie's daughter tipped to be Taoiseach's running mate
The daughter of Fine Gael stalwart Austin Currie is being tipped to be Taoiseach Leo Varadkar's running mate in the next general election.
Emer Currie is a long-time Fine Gael activist who has worked closely with former Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald in Dublin Mid West.
However, it is understood she will put her name forward at a forthcoming selection convention in the Taoiseach's Dublin West constituency.
Local sources say she is the ideal candidate to run alongside Mr Varadkar. She is expected to face competition at the convention from local councillors Kieran Denison and Ted Leddy.
In the 1960s Austin Currie served as a Stormont MP for the National Party before becoming a founding member of the SDLP.
He joined Fine Gael in 1989 and served as a TD in Dublin West for 13 years.
