Politics and the GAA not so rare
Irate callers to the Irish Independent HQ yesterday questioned why GAA managers like Pat Gilroy and Brian Cody even dared to express an opinion on the referendum after they and other All-Ireland winning managers came out for Yes vote.
God forbid such a thing would happen. Sure GAA figures should never get involved in politics.
So tell that to Peter Fitzpatrick, the current Louth football manager and sitting Fine Gael TD, and former Mayo manager John O'Mahony, another Fine Gael TD.
And what about Fermanagh manager Peter Canavan, who supported Martin McGuinness in the presidential election?
