Playwright Harris celebrates Rooney prize
NANCY Harris, pictured with US Ambassador to Ireland Dan Rooney, has been awarded the prestigious Rooney Prize for Irish Literature for her outstanding promise as a dramatist.
Educated at Trinity College and daughter of 'Sunday Independent' editor Anne Harris and columnist Eoghan Harris, she follows in the footsteps of such well-known writers as Neil Jordan and Anne Enright. It is awarded annually to a young Irish writer who shows exceptional promise in their field.
"Critics and audiences have been impressed by her psychological insight and by her sharp wit,'' said Dr Terence Brown, chair of the Rooney Prize committee.
Her play 'No Romance' premiered at the Abbey Theatre in March 2011.
