IRELAND now has one of the highest levels of newsprint recycling in the world, a new survey has found.
We currently recycle almost 90pc of our newspapers and magazines, according to a survey by the Green Press Partnership.
The 2011 survey results -- validated by international consultants RPS -- show that Ireland's rate of newsprint recycling has risen from 28pc in 2002 to its current level of 89pc. The amount of newsprint going to landfill fell by more than half in the past 12 months alone.
"These results are also a tribute to the Irish public, who continue to read and recycle our newspapers and magazines every day of the week," said Liam Kavanagh, chairman of the GPP.
