Plans for Rebel Week are Gathering pace

RESIDENTS in nine towns will open their doors to visitors as part of The Gathering's Rebel Week.

Cork's flagship event will host international marching bands – and each of the towns will be home to one band.

The event runs from October 14 to October 20. The nine towns are Clonakilty, Bandon, Bantry, Cobh, Kinsale, Skibbereen, Youghal, Mallow and Fermoy. The week will conclude with The International Cork Parade in Cork city on October 19. Each host town is planning its own float to compete and participate in the parade.

Organiser Padraic O'Kane said: "Cork people are unquestionably among the friendliest people on earth, so we were not surprised by the huge response to this," he said.

"We are very excited about the impressive line-up of events each town has lined-up and we are looking forward to a colourful and action packed week."
