Pigs on the run bring home bacon at Seabreeze festival

Louise Hogan

THREE little pigs went to the market but one showed a clean pair of trotters to the rest of the pork posse.

It was all in the name of a bit of old-style craic that Danielle Armstrong, the newly-crowned princess of the Arklow Seabreeze Festival, donned her sturdy boots to usher her charges towards the line in the annual Pig Derby.

All three little pigs crossed the finishing line in the middle of the Co Wicklow town with just a bit of guidance from Jake Molloy and Charlie Graham.

Among other "unique" events designed to attract the crowds to the four-day street festival was the burger-eating competition, a greasy pole contest, the wheelbarrow obstacle race and an ice-cream eating competition.

The festival came to a close last night with a fireworks display.
