YOUNG children were among dozens who were forced to flee a hotel after three gunmen burst in and opened fire.

Innocent families and tourists were in the hotel foyer as the 'Clash of the Clans' boxing weigh-in was about to take place in a nearby reception room.

The gunmen, dressed in garda-style uniforms, burst into the foyer of the hotel at approximately 2.30pm and armed with what eye witnesses say looked like AK47s, and fired a number shots, leading to dozens of people fleeing from the hotel.

One man died at the scene, while two other men are seriously injured.

The three men, all aged in their twenties or thirties, were brought to Beaumont and the Mater Hospital. The injuries of the two men are not believed to be life-threatening.

There is a large garda presence now at the scene and gardai have begun investigating the incident.

The scene is sealed off and a technical examination of the area is expected to take place.
