Pickpocket gangs cross Irish Sea

Tom Brady Security Editor

ROMANIAN pickpocket gangs have left Dublin for London to take part in a planned Olympics crime spree.

Gardai have been liaising closely with the Romanian authorities to monitor the movements of alleged members of the gangs while they were based here.

Officers are now satisfied they have all moved on to take advantage of the international visitors and sports fans that have poured into London over the past few days for the Games.

Several suspects are well known to detectives here because they have been based in this country for several months.

But others, who came to the notice of gardai in recent weeks in connection with various activities, were not previously listed in files and were thought to have arrived here in preparation for a transfer to London closer to the start of the Games.
