Taoiseach Enda Kenny has reaffirmed Ireland's "total support and assistance" to the French people.

He made the vow in a message he wrote in the Book of Condolences at the French Embassy in Dublin, which he signed shortly after 2.30pm this afternoon.

Mr Kenny was greeted by the French Ambassador to Ireland Jean-Pierre Thebault before signing the book.

He wrote a lengthy message of support in French, English and Irish, in honour of the victims of last Friday's terrorist attack.

"We feel the sorrow and pain of the French people and we hold with them against terrorism," Mr Kenny wrote in French.

"Ireland offers France total support and assistance," he added in English.
