Photographer catches starling flock in flight
WITH mesmerising swoops and a deafening beat of wings, this murmuration of starlings was something one photographer had always hoped to witness.
Johnny Bambury, from Termonfeckin, Co Louth, was on his way to see his daughter in Galway and took a 'straight line' route via the back roads just for a change of scenery.
In Toberelva, near Tulsk, Co Roscommon, he noticed the dip and dive of starlings on the horizon. "I drove like a mad thing to catch up with them and then just jumped out of the car," he said.
"They flew very, very close over my head three or four times – the wing beat was incredible; it's like bees buzzing in your head. There were literally thousands of them," he said, adding that they did not whistle or call.
