A petition has been launched to honour tragic coastguard Caitriona Lucas who died during a rescue mission in Co Clare.

The petition was launched to get a stamp containing the volunteer's art who "died a hero".

Caitriona (41) died when her boat capsized earlier this month during the search for missing teacher David McMahon off Kilkee.

"She died a hero and it would honour her to have her art on an Irish stamp," reads the petition.

"We loved her and miss her. Caitriona was an inspiration and so brave and kind."

Caitriona is survived by her husband Bernard and children Ben (20) and Emma (18).

Her son Ben bade her farewell, saying: "You are my hero".
