Convicted drug smuggler Melissa Reid could be home in Scotland within weeks, after serving more than two and a half years in a Peruvian prison.

A court date has been set for later this month for the 22-year-old's expulsion hearing, Mail on Sunday reports.

During the hearing, the judge will examine her prison record, proof of her personal details and if all her civil fines have been paid.

If her application is approved, Reid will return to the UK and will not be required to serve any jail time.

Reid's court date comes just a week after her co-accused Michaella McCollum was granted parole.

McCollum is now set to begin working in Lima as she must remain in the country for the remainder of her parole.
