Colm Kelpie

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after a hit-and-run.

The 21-year-old was knocked down by a green Nissan Micra in Parnell Road, Dublin, just before 2am.

The car, with a 96-D registration, was left at the scene but the driver fled.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to St James's Hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

Gardai are urging other pedestrians who were in the area at the time to come forward.

The road was closed to allow crash scene investigators to carry out a forensic examination.
