Passenger woe as fog delays flights up more than two hours

FOG delayed several flights out of Dublin today, with destinations including Gatwick, Heathrow and Amsterdam affected.

One Aer Lingus flight, due to depart at 6.40am did not take off until an hour later, while another, due to leave at 7.30am, was two and a half hours late leaving Dublin.

Gatwick was experiencing fewer delays with flights around 40 minutes late leaving Dublin.

Other flights from Cork, Shannon and Belfast to London Heathrow were also affected.

An Aer Lingus spokeswoman said: “So far there are six flights affected, due to fog in London, from Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Belfast. “

“A number of the delays have been in excess of two hours,” she said.

“We are hoping for an improvement with Air Traffic Control slots during the morning and to recover the schedule.”

Aer Rianta also said that fog at Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport also delayed one flight from Dublin by 90 minutes.
