Parkinson chat is big festival draw

AN interview with veteran BBC broadcaster Michael Parkinson by 'Prime Time' presenter Miriam O'Callaghan is one of the highlights of this year's West Cork Literary Festival.

Kicking off last night in Bantry, the week-long event features interviews with novelists such as American author Anita Shreve, poetry readings and song-writing workshops.

Motorcyclist dies, passenger hurt

A MOTORCYCLIST has died and his pillion passenger was seriously injured in a collision with a car at Priorswood Road in Darndale, Co Dublin, yesterday.

The dead man was a 20- year-old local man. His pillion passenger was also from the area.

Woman doused in petrol in hospital

A YOUNG woman is in hospital after a man poured petrol on her and tried to set her on fire.

She was attacked at a house at Aras Ui Domhnaill, outside Milford in Co Donegal, at around 7am. She was rushed to Letterkenny General Hospital but it is understood her injuries are not life-threatening. A 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
