Parents pay moving tribute to 'sports-mad' tragic son (5)

THE heartbroken parents of a five-year-old boy who died when a fireplace fell on him as he played at home have paid an emotional tribute.

Cormac and Anita Dawson spoke of their devastation at the loss of their sports-obsessed son, Fionn, as he was laid to rest.

Hundreds attended the Requiem Mass in Glanmire, Co Cork, of Fionn, who is survived by his parents, siblings Elliot and Mary-Kate, grandparents and extended family in White's Cross.

"This loss leaves a huge void in our lives which will be with us forever," said his father, Cormac. "Fionn was a typical five-year-old, up to all sorts. He loved jumping as high as gravity would allow on his trampoline. He had just tried out with the local GAA club and really loved his computer games."

His mother said Fionn was an affectionate and loving child.

"He loved cuddling up with us and playing with his little brother and sister and cousins and was doted on by his grandparents," she said.

"It will be a long time, if ever, before we come to terms with what has happened and, for now, we ask for time and space to grieve for our little son."
