Panti Bliss has paid an emotional tribute to a young man who died suddenly while on a family visit to San Francisco, writes Fiona Dillon.

Dean MacCearain (23), from Monaghan, was described as a "smart, quick-witted, funny, charming young man" by Panti in a Facebook post.

She also posted a photo of Dean celebrating the result of the Marriage Equality referendum at Dublin Castle which appeared in a scene of her documentary 'The Queen of Ireland'.

"One of the film's producers had to track him down afterwards and ask his permission to use the clip in the film, and he was excited and proud to be in it," she said.

Panti sympathised with Dean's family, friends and former classmates at Maynooth University. His cause of death is not yet known, but there is no indication of foul play.
