Panel delays meeting to quiz McGuinness
THE Public Accounts Committee has been forced to delay a meeting with the Central Bank so TDs can quiz John McGuinness, the embattled chair of the Dail spending watchdog.
The special two-hour session of the PAC comes after the Irish Independent revealed Mr McGuinness asked for his wife to accompany him on foreign trips while he was a junior minister.
It was also revealed a St Patrick's Day trip to Seattle for John and Margaret McGuinness and an official cost the State €22,000.
The details come amid continuing question marks over Mr McGuinness' position as PAC chair.
The Carlow-Kilkenny TD will vacate the chair temporarily today, as he did last month when the PAC discussed the €250,000 cost of kitting out his ministerial office in 2007.
The Office of Public Works told the PAC Mr McGuinness had no part in the cost or specifications of the office.
