Pair released without charge in beach death case

A man and woman who were arrested in connection with the slaying of a Lithuanian criminal have been released without charge.

The body of Audrius Butkus (44) – who had been living in Drogheda for four years – was found at Mornington Beach, Co Meath, at 9am last Tuesday by a woman walking her dog.

On Thursday, Gardai arrested a woman in her 30s in the Drogheda area.

Two further arrests – a man in his 50s and a woman in her 60s – were made yesterday.

All were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The woman in her 30s, and the man have both been released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The other woman remains in custody.
