The owner of a well-known restaurant has hit out at a “scumbag” who stole a fixed iPad from his restaurant.

Oliver Dunne, owner of Beef and Lobster in Dublin, was left stunned when a man came in off the street and ran off with their iPad.

“A man walked in the front door, grabbed the iPad which was fixed to the reception desk and ran off. It was just after we opened and the restaurant was full of customers.

“It was fixed to the desk but he just ripped it off.”

Mr Dunne said staff were left “surprised” at the act and reported it to gardai.

“It caused us major trouble as all our systems are cloud based so we couldn't create bills or process orders into the kitchen. It was a nightmare.

“Most guests were fine but some where really annoyed as it created delays and we had to compensate some items as a result.”

Mr Dunne said it also cost him €400 today to replace the iPad, plus a charge for an IT consultant to reinstall and connect the device.

“It was a nightmare,” he said.

Gardai confirmed they are investigating the incident.
