Overrun in health spending to be covered by cuts elsewhere

THE overrun in Department of Health spending is going to have to be covered by spending cuts elsewhere.

Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin says there will have to be several supplementary estimates before the end of the year.

Extra funding will have to go to health and justice, but there will also be internal savings within the department.

The minister the overall spending will be on target.

“The overall expenditure profile will be comfortably met,” he said.

Funding will be moved around between different areas of spending
