An industrial premises has been gutted in a fire that broke out near Tallaght Hospital in the early hours of the morning.

The blaze broke out at around 2.30am but took hold quickly, engulfing the property.

Four units of Dublin Fire Brigade from Tallaght and Dolphins Barn, backed up by a turntable ladder to fight the fire from above, battled the fire and smoke filled the area in the Cookstown Industrial Estate.

The blaze was brought under control and prevented from spreading, but fire crews remained at the scene this morning damping down the building.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known and a routine examination of the building by a senior fire officer is due to take place later this morning.
