WEEKEND registrations for the household charge of just under 7,000 brought the total to just over 890,000, the Department of the Environment said today.
This figure includes 153,000 postal applications that have yet to be processed but the majority of payments are still being made online.
A Department of the Environment spokesman said weekend payments came in at a “steady flow” but local authorities are still looking at a 50pc shortfall on the payment rate.
The controversial flat rate of €100 per household was supposed to raise €160m to replace exchequer funding.
Unless 100pc funding is raised through the charge, local authorities will face a gap in funding.
