Our nightmare: Father of digital rape nurse accused on ordeal
The father of Anne Marie O'Loughlin - wrongly jailed for raping another woman in Australia - today spoke of the nightmare the family had to endure since his daughter was first accused two and a half years ago.
An emotional and relieved Shay O'Loughlin said he was looking forward to his daughter returning home to Ireland having already served six months in prison in Brisbane.
The dramatic turn of events following the hiring of a new legal team and the withdrawal of all complaints by the other party.
Anne Marie was determined to clear her name and refused to plead guilty as part of a plea bargain which would have seen her qualify for an early release next March.
Her father said that getting the new legal team and their determination to appeal the original decision had brought about the chain of events.
Shay O'Loughlin was full of praise for the support of Anne Marie's family, friends and neighbours in Edenderry, Co. Offaly, who helped them through the ordeal.
He also praised the massive support of the Irish community in Brisbane.
The family had hoped to see their daughter earlier but the reunion has been delayed due to the ash cloud problems in Sydney causing a delay in getting flights home to Ireland.
