Opening the window on a rich history
DRACULA'S creator Bram Stoker, playwright Oscar Wilde, 'Liberator' Daniel O'Connell and poet WB Yeats all have connections there.
Yesterday, however, it was dress-up time for Dylan (9) and Ruby (6) Jones as they launched a new initiative to put Merrion Square back on the capital's cultural map.
Historic sites in Dublin's Merrion Square, which is celebrating its 250th birthday, attracted 1.6 million visitors last year.
Now Failte Ireland wants to build awareness of the square's rich history.
A Merrion Square Open Day will be held on August 25, followed by 'September On The Square', a month-long series of events bringing visitors on a journey of discovery through art, literature, music, history, architecture and family activities.
