Open car washes spark fury

CAR wash operators remain open in Galway city at a time when hundreds of houses are without water supplies, writes John Fallon.

And Galway City Council has come under fire for allowing the local authority's own swimming pool at Leisureland in Salthill to remain open, even though more than 80,000 homes in the county are affected by water cuts or restrictions since before Christmas.

Labour councillor Neil McNeilus said: "It is not fair that some people would take their vehicles to be washed at a time when so many houses and businesses are in dire straits."
