A FISHERMAN airlifted to hospital from Lough Corrib, Co Galway last night has died.
Two men were fishing about 2km north of Annaghdown when their boat was hit by a wave.
When one man in his fifties fell into the water, the second man, in his forties, tried to rescue him, but was unable to do so.
The two men were airlifted to hospital by the coast guard suffering from hypothermia and it is understood that a third man in the party was uninjured.
The second man was described as ‘comfortable’ in Galway University Hospital today.
The first man spent around 50 minutes in the water and came out of his life jacket. He died last night.
Neither man has been named until family members are informed.
Met Éireann had issued a small craft warning for the Lough Corrib area yesterday with conditions described as changeable.
