One man dead, and another seriously injured following two collisions overnight
A man in his sixties has died and another man is seriously injured following two separate collisions in the early hours of this morning.
Gardai in Salthill, Co Galway, are investigating a single vehicle collision which occurred at the village of Barna at approximately 5.45am this morning.
The fatal crash occurred when a car struck a traffic light.
The driver, a man in his sixties, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was removed to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem is expected to take place later today.
The road was closed for some time to facilitate a a garda examination but has since re-opened.

Meawhile, a 20-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital today following a collision in Co Galway in the early hours of this morning.
The single vehicle crash occurred on the N66 Loughrea to Gort Road, approximately 3km outside Loughrea, at approximately 4.30am this morning.
The victim was a passenger in the car which crashed into a ditch.
He was taken to University Hospital in Galway where he is in a serious condition.
The driver and second passenger in the car were not injured.
The road is now closed and diversions are in place as a forensic and technical examination takes place.
