Limerick native Kate Stapleton was seriously worried she might have to forego her final year of college this year because she couldn't find a roof over her head.

The bachelor of science undergraduate at UCC has been looking for suitable accommodation since March and only recently, thanks to Twitter, found a place near the campus.

Despite her six-month search, Ms Stapleton considers herself very lucky. But it was an ordeal she wouldn't want to repeat.

Along with encountering rental scams, filthy conditions and ludicrously expensive rents to share a house or apartment with strangers, she also encountered some oddball prospective landlords.

"There would be some very weird vibes from some landlords. There was one who did the whole interview in Irish, even though I only have Irish from school. On top of that, he wouldn't take anyone who came from a city," she said.
