One in four will suffer mental health problem
ONE in four people will experience a mental health problem at some time in their lives, research has found.
Today is World Mental Health Day and health experts are urging people to consider seeking help during tough times.
"This is so important for us all given the current economic downturn and the impact it is having on people's stress levels and well-being," Catherine Brogan, acting director of the National Office for Suicide Prevention with the HSE, said.
A help and information website has been set up at www.yourmentalhealth.ie.
It is estimated 386 men and 100 women took their own lives last year.
On Wednesday a mental health lecture will be hosted by the College of Psychiatry of Ireland in Jigsaw, Galway, at 7.45pm and on Friday HSE's Kilkenny Mental Health Services will host an information day.
